Fresh off his National Championship victory just one month ago in the Fall Spectacular promotion, Andrew Downing of Texas has done it again! He was the winner of the Texas state championship held this past weekend and will be heading back to Las Vegas to play in the World Series of Poker. He will also compete against 24 other players in the National Championship with the winner getting a buy-in into the World Series of Poker Main Event. Andrew will be trying to become the first ever Free Poker Network player to become a two time National Champion.
This past weekend at the Shooting Star Casino in Mahnomen, MN, six Minnesota Poker League players won their way to the 2010 World Series of Poker! Each one will play in Event #54 while also competing in the FPN National Championship where the winner will be crowned the new National Champion and play in the $10,000 WSOP Main Event! The lucky winners (pictured front row left to right) were Tomi Hamilton from Trackside in Wadena, Nels Peterson from Ultimate Sports Bar in Waite Park, Jon Stern from 50 Lakes Bar in Emily, (back row left to right) Bill Long from Courtney's Comedy Club & JC's Corral in Moorhead and Dilworth, Jim Buchite from 50 Lakes Bar in Emily, and Kevin Rouser from the Whistle Stop Tavern in Lonsdale.
Legends Bar and Grill in Lincoln, NE, was brimming with 76 poker players from around the state who were hoping to stake their claim to the Desination Las Vegas Nebraska State Championship Title this past Saturday, May 15th. The action got underway at 12 pm sharp, with 24 players starting with a double chip stack advantage. Like elsewhere around the country, the weather in Lincoln was a dream, which mirrored many of the players hopes to make the final table. However, one person's dream was cut short early. Within the first hour of tournament play we had lost our first player--Randy Keldsen from the Sand Bar in Pleasanton. Randy didn't go home empty handed though. We sent him off with hopes to make the next state championship and some sweet FPN gear.
The race for the two state titles in our Destination Las Vegas South Dakota State Championship was on this past Sunday, May 16th as 65 qualifiers from around the state gathered for some hot and heavy Texas Hold’em tournament action at the Stadium in Madison, SD. It was a long run with the tournament starting at 1 pm and ending after 11:30 pm, but our two winners—Brian Kozak playing out of Sportsmen’s Rendezvous in Tyndall, and Troy Sattler playing out of the Decoy Bar in Webster—couldn’t have been happier with how things turned out.
