On a sunny, 80 degree October day in Hoskins, Nebraska, 52 players from as far as North Platte came together to play their best poker to see who would become Nebraska's new state champion for our Gold Rush 2 promotion. There were a lot of familiar faces in the crowd as most players competed in at least one state championship before.

Brian Kozak walked away the big winner at Caesars Palace after conquering the field of 24 players in the "Destination Las Vegas: WSOP 2010" championship freeroll. Brian makes South Dakota proud and ads to the stories of success coming from the Sportsmen's Rendezvous, a small-town bar that has had more than its share of big winners since joining the league a few years ago.
Kozak defeated 2-time national qualifier Nels Peterson (runner up) and fellow South Dakotan Troy Sattler (3rd place) in the end. Nels was near the chip lead all evening but had a run of bad luck on the final table. Glen Nichols represented Nebraska well, but finished in 4th place. Defending national champ Andrew Downing from Texas threatened to take down back-to-back championships, but came up short (5th place) in the end. Brian Kozak's supporters cheered wildly when the final hand revealed he was in fact the new National Champ!

Congrats to Gary Franco for taking down the NY Championship! Gary (pictured left) was the points leader at Lilly O’Brien’s Irish Bar & Restaurant in New York at the end of the six-week contest. He won or placed 2nd in 4 out of the 6 contests! With only 2 bars in this first-ever Free Poker Network contest in New York, Gary only had to face a field of 10 players at the championship at Amity Hall on Tuesday, June 15th.
