For the first time ever the South Dakota Championship was taking place in Tyndall, SD at the Sportsmen's Rendezvous. The field was quite extensive and the players were getting after it early and often. Charlie Lawrence from the Only One was off to a commanding lead early as he knocked out the first player within 20 minutes of the tournament start. Mark Elmer from Jackson's Golf Club was the unfortunate victim when he held top two pair only to run into Charlie's trips.
90 players from around the state of South Dakota have qualified for this championship tournament. The top 6 players earn a seat in the Sin City Showdown National Final on July 2nd in Las Vegas.

Craig Behrens from Sioux Falls, SD broke through on Saturday evening, winning the monthly championship online for a trip to Las Vegas and a seat in the Sin City Showdown national final! Craig has been a regular in the league, having made 4 state championship tournaments in the past. It turns out 2011 might be his big year...Craig was the lone survivor among 130 players who qualified for the monthly final, he plays at Senor Wiener in Sioux Falls and is currently qualified for the fall playoffs. Larry Johnson from West Fargo, ND placed runner up and will receive an iPod Shuffle. Both winners prove it pays to play those game cards!
All three South Dakota Regionals will take place this weekend. The Northeast corner of the state will be playing in Aberdeen on Saturday night April 9th at 7pm. The Southeast corner will either be attending the Saturday April 9th regional at noon or the Sunday April 10th regional at noon. All regional and direct qualifiers will come together on Sunday April 17th in Tyndall for the state championship with a 1pm start. Good Luck!
The Corner Bar in Rosholt, SD, welcomed more than 80 Gold Rush 2 state qualifiers this past Saturday, Nov. 6 for the state's 15th championship event. With five past champions in the field, 12 players with final table experience and six double chip stacks, everyone was set to play their best in order to pick up one of the TWO grand prize packages in our Gold Rush 2 Promotion. But of course, only TWO would walk away as the overall champs, and surprisingly it was Terry Gloe (Bucks - Sioux Falls) and Jason Davis (Alpine - Sioux Falls) who managed to walk away with the three-night stay at the Golden Nugget, airfare package and seats in our $20,000 cash national championship. I say surprisingly because neither Gloe or Davis had previous final table experience or a state championship title under their belt. Guess poker really still can be anyone's game!
