Dennis Hestand from Clinton, MO was a dominate force in the recent Vegas or Bust National Championship. Altogether there were 99 competitors that came from 19 different states to Las Vegas at the MGM poker room. Dennis played solid poker all day and came in seventh place to win himself a $1,000 seat into the World Series of Poker Event #59 the following day. The top eleven players all won a seat into Event #59 with the overall winner also receiving a $10,000 Main Event Seat. Altogether over $22,000 in cash and prizes were awarded and Dennis was able to get a piece of that.
Bill Hough (Pictured left) who was at the Sin City Showdown National Championship who after getting knocked out vowed to return has made his goal a reality. Bill was able to win the Missouri Vegas or Bust State Championship recently winning his spot at the National Championship on July 4th along with an airfare allowance and a free hotel stay at Hooters Casino. Joining Bill will be Dennis Hestand (pictured right) who came in second. Both players will take their shot at winning one of twelve seats into this years World Series of Poker.
Earlier this month at the Missouri State Championship, Bill Hough got extremely close to qualifying for the Sin City Showdown by finishing third. However, it was the top two players that qualified for the National Championship sending Bill home in third place and just missing out. Luckily for Bill the dream wasn't over. At all the state championships every player received a chance to play against each other for yet another chance at qualifying for the National Final.
Terri Cummings also known as the lady in red recently won the Missouri State Championship. Terri who wears red while playing poker because it's her lucky color continued the heater she's on by placing first at the State Championship. For her win Terri also won the airfare allowance and hotel stay at Harrah's. Coming in second place was Jimmy Greenwell, both players have qualified for the National Championship in Las Vegas on December 3rd.
The Missouri State Final was held May 1st at the Flaming Lantern in Butler. Twenty one players out of twenty five qualifiers were in attendance for the big game where 2 spots in the Sin City Showdown were up for grabs including airfare and hotel accommodations for first place. The game started out with early play being aggressive and players trying to build up their chip stacks right from the start. The first casualty was in the first hand when Martin Ambrozi doubled the big blind and several players called including the BB, Ken Edghill who was one of two players to be doubled stack to start the final....
