10:15 - CLAY'S TOURNAMENT ENDS
Like the earlier post had stated Clay was on the short stack on his table after the dinner break.  Halfway through the level Clay was able to double up to about 4,000 when he got them in there against the big stack with J-5 of diamonds against A-2o  Clay was able to flop a 5 and stay alive.  Shortly after that Clay was in the small blind with A-9d's and moved all-in against the big blind.  The big blind called and turned over A-2o.  The flop brought and 2 and the turn and the river were no help and Clay's week of playing in two WSOP events has come to an end.  On a side note I asked his wife Jaime what the plans were if Clay were to make Day 2 on Tuesday and Jaime said that they would fly back to Breezy Point Friday morning so Clay could make his league night Monday and catcha  late plane to make Day 2 on Tuesday.  That is dedication!!

9:30pm - DINNER BREAK, SHORT STACKED:  Clay has lost some more ground as he heads toward a much needed dinner break on a short stack of 3700.  He will take this 90-min break to clear his head and look for a good spot to double up after dinner.

8:45pm - BIG HIT:
With a half hour to play in Level 3 before the dinner break, Clay has taken a big hit.  I walked up to the table as Clay was raising a button player with a rag board.  The button player called and Ace peels off on the turn to a bet of 3k from Clay.  His opponent calls and they see another Ace on the river.  Clay bets 10k and the other player tanks for about a minute before making the call with pocket Jack's.  Clay mucks and is down to 13k.

7:30pm - CIRCUS ATMOSPHERE:
With four Day 1's for pros to choose from they are scattered throughout the field.  Some notable eliminations include Eli Elezra, Freddy Deeb, David Benyamine, Allyn Jaffrey Shulman, David Pham and Devilfish.  There are at least two TV crews in each quadrant of the room and Clay is a few tables away form a large group surrounding Barry Greenstein.

Meanwhile the 2008 Gaming Life Expo is underway in the next room with tons of gaming-related booths and lovely ladies pimping various products.  Several pros are doing signings including Jerry Yang, Moneymaker, and the legend Doyle Brunson himself.

7:00pm - MOVING ON UP:
Clay made some nice progress in Level 2 as he has nearly doubled his chip stack no sitting around 38.5k.  He said he slow-played aces and took down a nice 7-8k pot.  He is 2nd in chips on his table and says he feels as if has a good read on all the players.  He even called a player's river bet with a pair of 2's and was right, his opponent only had Ace high.

4:45pm - PLAYERS RETURN FROM 1ST BREAK:
This event is a little slower paced than Monday's $1500 NL Event #52 but there have been a scattering of eliminations during the first level.  Clay is keeping about even and sits with 21k at the first break.

3:45pm - CLAY UP, ALMOST HITS JACKPOT:  Once they let the spectators in I went to join the mass of people and found Clay seated right on the rail.  His table is playing short-handed with 1 open seat and 2 late players so only 6 live bodies on the table.

Right when I get to the table I witness the following hand.  Clay called a preflop raise from early position with the A8 of spades.  Heads-up he flops the nut flush on a 6-5-3 spade board.  He checks and the raiser bets 500.  Clay smooth calls and a 3 peels off on the turn.  Clay check raises his opponent from 1000 to 2500 and gets called.  Another 3 comes on the river and now Clay's flush shrinks as he checks.  His opponent tables K-J of spades behind him and Clay scoops a nice 8k pot that could have been much nicer if not for the running 3's.  He is at around 23k.

2:15pm (CST) - MAIN EVENT BEGINS:  Well folks, this is it!  No matter how much time you spend around poker, the start of the Main Event will always get your blood pumping.  After a slight delay of getting players into the Amazon Room at the Rio, players were greeting with the UNLV marching band and none other than Wayne Newton singing "Viva Las Vegas" and saying those famous words, "Shuffle Up and Deal!".

Today is Day 1A of the Main Event and while we are still waiting for official numbers to come in, the turnout is expected to be as good or better than last year.  There will be four Day 1's to accommodate the huge field with each day capable of holding around 3,000.  Blinds are 50/100 to start and each player begins with 20,000 chips.  Levels are 2 hours long with dinner break after Level 3 and play stopping after Level 5.  Those players good (and lucky) enough to survive the day will join the players from Day 1B on Tuesday for Day 2A.

Good luck Clay!
