WSOP Event #52 Recap Print E-mail
Monday, 30 June 2008

12:11am UPDATE: Tim Johnson is out at the hands of Clay Lipke.  Tim on the short stack gets played at by Clay on a steal.  Tim moves  over the top and Clay calls.  Tim tables Q-10 and Clay tables J-9.  Unfortunately for Tim the flop brought a Jack and the river brought a Jack. Shortly after that Clay gets involved in a big hand.  The player to his right makes mid sized raise and Clay calls.  The flop is all clubs and the player to his right checks and Clay moves all in.  The player in seat 10 takes a minute and calls.  Clay shows Jacks with the Jack of Clubs.  The other player shows Aces with the Ace of clubs.  The turn and the river bring clubs and Clay is crippled.  A few hands later Clay moves in from the under gun and is called.  Clay turns over 9's and the other player shows 10's.  The board brings no help and Clay's day is done.  The good news is Clay is not done this week.  He is the National champ and will have his chance at the Main Event this Thursday on Day 1a.  We will be reporting so check back on Thursday.

11:09 BACK FROM BREAK GOOD NEWS BAD NEWS:  Clay is gaining chips taking down 1650 with the blinds at 300/600 and ante of 75.  Estimate is 17,000.  Tim who has doubled up since break was sitting at about 8K when he moved all in and got called by a shorter stack, Clay yet to act went into the tank, but eventually folded.  Tim had KK vs. A-J; King on the flop almost sealed the deal, but a queen on the turn and 10 on river stole the pot from Tim.  While blogging this Tim doubled up and estimate is about 4K.  Both of the remaining two players are sitting side by side while other players who have busted and the staff are watching so they have a good audience watching every hand.

8:55  DINNER BREAK, LINDA BUSTS AFTER SWITCHING TABLES:  Linda Ralidak (Thirsty Moose, Hibbing, MN) has just busted out after getting her chips in with a short stack and KQ.  She was in late position and shoved only to have players wake up with Tens and Jacks.  The board bricked and she is done in about 600th place.

Players are now on a 90-minute dinner break and it appears that our only 2 players left are on the same table! Tim has about 4k while Clay has moved to 11,500.  Brad and Shannon still MIA but probably out.

8:40  STACY LATEST TO FALL:  Stacy Stanford (Touchdown Club, North Platte, NE) was the latest victim at this fast action tournament.  He busted just now with about 700 players remaining.  Details to come....

15 minutes to go until the dinner break and both Clay and Tim have dropped to around 4-5k.  Linda's table broke up and we are trying to track her down.

8:15  ANTHONY HENDRICKS DONE:  Anthony raised to 1200 with AK from middle position and an early position limper called.  Flop looked good with AJ7 rainbow so Anthony checked.  An 8 on the turn brought another check from his opponent so Anthony fired 2k.  His opponent check-raised him all-in and Anthony thought for a while before calling with top-top.  Unfortunately his opponent hit a gutter ball with 9T and he was drawing dead on the river.  Anthony did take 3rd in the National Championship and will be playing another tourney somewhere later this week.

Clay has doubled back up to around 7k and has been sitting right next to fellow FPN player Tim Johnson (VFW, Moorhead, MN) for the past 3 hours.  In a field this big that is crazy!  Other than those two, we are still watching Linda Ralidak and Stacy Stanford as we get close to the dinner break.

7:55  JOE BUSHLACK IS OUT:  It's official, Joe Bushlack did bust earlier in the day.  He said he got rivered 3 times on big hands and did not win a pot.  2 pair vs straight, boat got counterfeit, and finally AA vs KQ to make a straight to bust him.  Tough day...

7:40  MARK BUSTS:  Mark Moench (Z103, Fergus Falls, MN) has been busted.  He was whittled down to around 1500 and picked up an ace with the big blind coming at him in a couple hands.  He was call by a player with a King and the player hit to eliminate Mark.

Shannon Coyle (Moonlight Bar, Mitchell, SD) is now MIA joining fellow SD player Brad Badten (NY, NY in Aberdeen, SD) and Joe Bushlack (Echo Lanes, Austin, MN) as players we believe have busted but have not been able to confirm.

Stacy has moved to 12k in chips as Level 5 (150/300 with 25 ante) is about to finish.  Only 940 players are remaining meaning that we are down to 1/3 of the field.  Fargo player Jason Kramer has about 7200 in chips.

7:13 UPDATE:  Anthony Hendricks has about 8,000 in chips.  Tim Johnson just chipped up to more than 9,000 in chips when he got them in  with AJ against pocket 10's and spiked a Jack on the river.  Fargo area player Dave Baxter has busted out of the tournament.  2,693 players started this event with a near sellout.  Payouts start with 270 players remaining.   The player who places 270 will walk away with $2757 dollars and the winner will receive $625,244 and the coveted gold bracelet.

6:28 UPDATE: Second Break chip counts:
Clay Lipke 7,000
Stacy Stanford 7,500
Shannon Coyle 3,100
Mark Moench 2,250
Tim Johnson 7,500
Linda Ralidak ? still in the tournament
Anthony Hendricks? still in the tournament
Joe Bushlack - MIA
Brad Badten - MIA

6:06 UPDATE:  Lonnie Schafer, Sean Egstad, Jason Hauf, and Dave Chaput have hit the rail.  League founder Brook Lyter and league player Scott Eckert couldn't gain any traction and are out of the tournament as well.  On a side note Lonnie was knocked out of the tournament by Full Tilt pro Roland DeWolffe.

5:24 UPDATE: Ryan Aldrich runner up yesterday has busted.  Had to move all in as he was short stacked.  We are missing Brad Badten and Jason Hauf.  We don't know if they have been moved or busted.

5:05 DOUBLE UPS: Sean Egstad and Dave Chaput have both doubled up putting their chipstacks at a little over the starting count of 3000.   Day ends for Scott Eckert as his pocket queens get run over by pocket tens.  Scott had made a full house, but the other guy hit quads.

4:40  OTHER ND PLAYERS:  Cody Slaubaugh from Rugby, ND doubled up with AA to 10k right before the break.  Cody finished 2nd in an earlier event for around $380k.  Brook has about 2100, Scott has 2800, Dave Baxter from Fargo has 2000, and Jason Kramer from Fargo has 7500.

4:30  1ST BREAK:  After two 1-hour levels players are now on a 20 minute break.   We have lost 5 players that we know of so far as Terry busted when she flopped a set with her 99's and a player caught a flush on her.  Chip counts from the league player's are as follows:
Linda 10k
Clay 7100
Mark 3225
Shannon 3200
Tim 5k
Dean 1300
Stacy 2300
Dave 2100
Sean 1600
Lonnie 3500
Anthony 5000
Joe, Brad, Ryan, Jason ????

4:05 ANOTHER ONE HITS THE RAIL: Ron Johnson from Dewey's in Kindred, ND has hit the rail.  The hand right before the break Ron wakes up to AK.  After the turn he gets them all in there with a board of K-Q-3.  The other player held Q-J.  Turn brought a 10 and the Ace on the river ended.  Tough way to go.   He did get the pleasure of sitting with Erica Schoenberg and Victor Ramdin.

3:55 ANTHONY ON ROLLER COASTER:  Anthony Hendricks (Rusty Nail, Thief River Falls, MN) had built his stack to among the chip leaders with 11k before taking a 6k hit.  Anthony hit the nut flush with A8 of spade on a board of KK42J and ran into a player playing the ducks for a full house.

In other updates, Sean Egstad (The Bowler, Fargo) is sitting around 2-3k and just cracked his first beer and trying to buy the table shots!  League organizer Brook Lyter was crippled early but has recently doubled back up to even and league player and HPT champion Scott Eckert is down a bit to start.

Clay Lipke (Primetime, Breezy Point, MN) is riding his hot streak after winning the National Championship and $10,000 Main Event entry yesterday and is off to a good start.

3:40  MICHAEL DONE:  Michael Grote (Underground Saloon, Hartford, WI) has just busted.  He flopped top pair with KT and was outkicked by KQ.  He had an amazing run of cards picking up AA on back-to-back to win small pots and then his KK got cracked by AK on a river ace a couple hands later to lose about half his stack.  Michael was seated right next to pro Annie Duke and outlasted her by a couple hands.

3:20   PRESTON LOSES COIN FLIP:  Preston raises to 300 from late position with AJ of clubs and an agresssive player from the sb moves all-in over the top.  Preston makes the call for his remaining 1700 and is in a coin flip situation vs pocket 9's.  The door card is an Ace but there is also a 9.  The board bricks out and Preston's day is done.  Looks like the jinx of mentioning players continues.

Players are busting out very quickly and they are moving players from room to room so it is very difficult to track everyone.

3:00 PRESTON TAKES A HIT:  Preston had top pair, but was out kicked and just lost about 3000, but still has 2000 to play with.

2:48 PRESTON OFF TO A GOOD START: Preston Sweeney (Work Zone, West Fargo) told us he had pocket Kings back to back and is up about 1000.

2:45 OUR FIRST CASUALTY:  Jeff Miller has busted.  Jeff limped in with AT and went to the flop with several players.  The flop comes ATx and jeff leads out for 300, another guy at the table shoves all-in and Jeff makes the call.  The other guy had A-K and hit the three outer on the river to steal the pot back.  Tough break Jeff.

2:22 TERRY AND JEFF HAVE PRO'S AT THEIR TABLES:  Terry Dusterhoft (Fat Daddy's, Alexandria, MN) has Nam Lee on her table and to Jeff Miller's (MVP Lounge, Omaha) immediate left Shannon Shorr.  We will try and get some pictures up soon.

2:10 WE ARE UNDERWAY:  All 20 players have sat down at their seats and the cards are in the air.  The event sold out early this morning.  We have four people covering the players as they are spread out in various rooms in the Rio as 2700 people are looking to win a WSOP braclet.  We will do our best to bring any and all updates throughout the day.
